Author Biography

Marc Maxwell, Daniel Brush, and David Horne

David Horne is a former high school athletic director and baseball coach who strongly believes Roger Maris belongs in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

He also believes every baseball fan should be required to watch The Sandlot at least once in the spring and summer, and as often as necessary to bridge the gap from the World Series to spring training.

Davids best year of Little League came in 1982. That same season he carried a 1964 Topps rookie card (#471) of Detroit Tigers outfielder Gates Brown in the back pocket of his uniform during all of his home games. On the road, he kept the card in his right stocking. [MLB Chapter 1 Intro]

He currently is a doctoral student at the University of Oklahoma, and spends much of his free time studying statistics and trying to establish a causal link between his Gates Brown card and the good fortune he had that one season.

David grew up in Florida in a town with one stoplight, forty churches, and sixty lakes. He and his two brothers spent as much time as possible outside and barefoot. In the spring and summertime they fished and played baseball. In the fall and winter they hunted and played baseball.

In 1993, David married his high school sweetheart, the former Lisa Bryant.

Since David is not left-handed, he could not convince the Atlanta Braves they needed him as a pitcher. So Lisa kept him in school, where he studied education, athletic administration, history, and politics.

He and Lisa have since lived in South Carolina, Florida, Korea, and Germany. Lisa is currently a sonographer in the perinatology department at the U. S. military hospital in Landstuhl, Germany, and David teaches history at the Department of Defense middle school in Ramstein, Germany.

In 2000, David and Lisa spent an entire summer teaching their two year old nephew to become a left-handed pitcher. Today, their nephew does everything left-handed except throw a baseball.

David credits his mom and dad for getting him addicted to sports and books. His essay titled The Memory of Hope earned honorable mention in the memoir category of the 74th Annual Writers Digest Writing Competition. In that essay, David discusses the profound influence of his father on his life.

Daniel Dan Brush was born in Davenport, Iowa and currently resides in Ansbach, Germany.

Dan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Utah and a Master of Science from Weber State University (Utah), where he received the highly competitive National Security Education Program fellowship. He is currently working on his PhD through the University of Oklahomas Advanced Programs in Germany.

Dans father worked for the U.S. Government, so he moved all over the world, spending most of his childhood in Europe. One thing that was constant no matter where he lived was baseball. Dan played baseball at U.S. Army bases in the U.S., Italy, and Germany and, while still in high school, was on the practice squad with the Frth Pirates of the Bavarian Baseball League in Germany before returning to the United States in 1990. Dan has been an avid baseball fan since he can remember (despite being a Montreal Expos fan!) and enjoys playing softball when time permits.

Dans favorite teams are the Washington Nationals (MLB), the Cleveland Browns (NFL), the Iowa Hawkeyes (NCAA Football), the Runnin Utes of the University of Utah (NCAA Basketball) and the Utah Jazz (NBA). You may notice that two of Dans favorite teams lost their team or moved within the past few years (the Browns and Expos/Nationals)this is pure coincidence.

Dan is married to his wife of 10 years, Paulina. Together they have three children (Devin-8, Daniella-5, and Kristian-2).

Marc CB Maxwell, originally from Corpus Christi, Texas currently resides in Pembroke, Kentucky. He is a Department of Defense Guidance Counselor who works with deployed personnel and their families on a daily basis at Fort Campbell, KY.

Maxwell, an avid sports fan, award winning author, and current PhD student at the University of Oklahoma, played basketball at Cornell College of Iowa where he helped lead his club to a Midwest Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship and a trip to the NCAA Division III National Tournament. He was also featured on ABC's Good Morning America in high school for tossing in a last second 70-foot shot during his freshman season that helped his team to the State Tournament in Texas. (See Unbelievable Shot on the Right Column)

Maxwell holds a Bachelor's degree from Cornell College, a Master of Science degree from Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi, and has earned a Master of Education degree from The Pennsylvania State University.

Maxwell, a former Army Airborne Ranger, has been awarded numerous medals including the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He is also the author of Surviving Military Separation: 365 Days (Savas Beatie 2007).

Maxwell is married to his wife of ten years, Christine. They have one darling little girl named Meredith.
